Independence in a relationship is only possible if you are allowed to be independent.
Independence is a gift your partner gives you. Not allowing yourself to be compromised or give up to much of yourself, that you are no longer you, is not possible without permission. Simply because in a real relationship with someone you love, their happiness is where your happiness lives.
This should be a gift to each other.

A relationship can also be defined as one of friends too. I am re-reading this as being about that now.
For instance, some friends reading this one or the post below it, may re-interpret it based on how much of yourself they want to "allow" you to be. Even if in their own minds. And that is such a pissoff.
But that isn't truly maybe where you were going when you wrote this, still I think it applies (without maybe that love part!)
